Artstation post

For the project “Donde Yace la Oscuridad (Where Darkness Lies),”, directed by Joaquin Gori, I was responsible for VFX Compositing and coming up with ways to get the monster’s look. When I joined the team, the footage with the actors had already been shot, but the person initially in charge of the visual effects had left the project.

The short film tells the story of Pilar, who, after experiencing street harassment one night, returns home to wait for a friend but falls asleep. Upon waking, she finds her body paralyzed and a supernatural figure in her room. Desperate, she seeks a way to escape and survive.

The film was selected for several international festivals ever since its premiere, such as the LIAF in Canada (2024), the Edo State International Films Festival (2023), FESAALP (2023), La Última Escena (2023), and most recently, Cine con Riesgo (2024).

In this blog you will find my reel with my work featured in the film, the trailer of the shortfilm, plus some extra links with information about the project’s awards.

Working on this project meant a significant challenge for me since I didn’t have complete control over the footage provided. However, thanks to the excellent work of director Joaquín Gori, art director Antonela Belén, and producer Florencia García, we achieved a result we are all proud of.
I independently organized my time and worked closely with the team to solve the issues that arose during filming.

Using Adobe After Effects, I performed frame-by-frame rotoscoping, which complicated the production considerably because the actor was dressed in black and the backgrounds were also dark. Additionally, I created 2D effects to add smoke and volume to the monster.

The project lasted a total of three months with intermittent work, but the result was worth it.
