“Silent Planet” is a suspenseful sci-fi movie directed by Jeffrey St. Jules to which I worked as a VFX Compositor.
The plot follows two prisoners in the near future, sentenced to hard labor on a distant planet. As the story unfolds, they become increasingly paranoid and start to lose their sense of identity and their past lives. The film features stellar performances by Elias Koteas, known for his roles in “Shutter Island” and “The Thin Red Line,” and Briana Middleton, recognized for her roles in “Sharper” and “The Tender Bar.”
In this project I worked as a digital compositor using Nuke, handling tasks such as chroma-keying, motion graphics, set extensions, matte painting, and wire removals.
To do this, I collaborated with talented teams like studio Vitamin VFX (currently part of MARZ), Urban Post Production, the production company Good Films, and also worked alongside other independent artists like Joy Parmar.
Throughout the project, I primarily used Nuke for most of the shots, but the only exception was the opening credit sequence, which I created with material provided by the team, combined with particle simulations using After Effects.
This was my first major project in a fully professional environment for a feature film, where I worked on a total of 23 shots.
The movie premiered at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal on July 24, 2024, and at the 2024 Toronto’s Blood in the Snow Film Festival where I was present with the rest of the production crew.
